An opportunity for freelance prospect researchers ...

If you are currently employed as a prospect research professional in a non-profit organization, The Freelance Prospect Research Network has been developed to provide you with an opportunity to obtain supplemental work. We are currently near full capacity and have developed a waiting list. We are looking to fill geographic gaps in our Network. Of particular interest, would be researchers in California, Texas, and Florida, or states adjacent to these three.

  • The Network has provided more than 300 profiles in 2006 to philanthropic organizations including private secondary schools, major universities, environmental organizations, and medical institutions throughout the United States.
  • We market the services of our freelance members to non-profit organizations across the United States through our website, direct marketing efforts, conference exhibitions, and advertising. The network also receives referrals from Chase Solutions and other prospect research firms and development consultants.
  • Our freelance researchers determine how much they charge for their work.
  • As research projects are received by the network, we broadcast the assignment scope and deadline to freelance members across the network. The client receives a copy of the bio and a sample profile from each available freelance researcher. The client then decides who to assign the work to.
  • The Network handles all billing and collections, promptly paying the freelance researcher regardless of collection.
  • We recently set up an email discussion group for our freelance members to support eachother in their freelance work.
  • Freelance membership is limited to prospect researchers who are employed full-time by a non-profit organization. Our members are professional prospect researchers from organizations ranging from healthcare to major Ivy League universities, across the country.
  • The Network respects and maintains the confidentiality of our freelance members and the institutions that they are affiliated with.

Here's what our freelance researchers are saying about their experience ...

  • "The Freelance Prospect Research Network has been wonderful for my professional development. Through the network, I am afforded opportunities to expand both my portfolio of experience and my network of professional contact. I am sincerely grateful to Dave Chase for bringing together this network." - JS
  • "As a member of the Freelance Prospect Research Network I have found a way to supplement my income doing something I really enjoy!  Not only am I earning more, I have gotten to do prospect research for a variety of different clients which keeps the work interesting. The FPRN has also been great for sharing new prospect research sources and information with other researchers from around the US." - KJ

As the network grows, we plan to pursue additional benefits for our partners in this venture. Some of the ideas that we are exploring include negotiating substantial discount programs with content vendors, providing training, a standardized forms and checklist library, and developing a board of advisors (done), comprised of both freelance members of the network and clients, to shape the future network. We also encourage your ideas to develop a process that ensures all members are able to compete effectively for assignments and that you receive substantial value and income from the network.

We believe that it is important to note that this initiative is being undertaken by a full-time prospect research company, Chase Solutions. Our firm will not be competing for any of the assignments received by the network. In addition, we will be referring research work to the network that we are not able to accommodate due to workflow or other considerations. As a for-profit prospect research company, we sometimes find that we are unable to meet the needs of smaller non-profits because our overhead costs dictate a higher pricing structure than they can afford. Due to lower overhead, and because freelance work is a supplement to their jobs at non-profit organizations, we are often approached by colleagues looking for sub-contract work. The development of the Freelance Prospect Research Network is a natural outgrowth of this demand.

The network also provides an opportunity for independent prospect research consultants who are not directly employed by a non-profit organization. We have developed a separate directory on this site to afford independent consultants and opportunity to promote their services.
